On Behalf of History of Black Gay America and our founding partner (Meak Productions, Inc.), WE SPEAK THE NAME of an Atlanta Legend: BISHOP LAVOR KENTE TROY SANDERS,  who made his transition on April 19, 2025.

 

Bishop Troy Sanders was the founder and senior pastor of Rehoboth Fellowship of Atlanta United Church of Christ in the Metro/East Atlanta area. Bishop Troy was consecrated Bishop in July 2023, having faithfully served under the leadership of renowned Gospel Legend and LGBTQ Activist: Bishop Yvette A. Flunder and The Fellowship of Affirming Ministries movement in various capacities for the last twenty years.

 

PLEASE STAY TUNED For Our Memorial Tribute in his honor in our Hall of Fame section of this site and his Posthumous Induction at our upcoming 3rd Annual HOF Induction ceremony.

From 2021 - 2022, HBGA in collaboration with Meak Productions, partnered with Atlanta's longest running LGBTQ weekly magazine, David Atlanta (formally Peach Magazine) to feature and honor queer people of color each week of Black History Month.

 

HBGA is proud to digitally re-release the 8 issues online via the David Magazine Archives, that was produced by us February 2022 (Published by Brian Sawyer - Publication Founder), and the additional February 2021 & 2023 BHM issues that was written by us and Produced by Mikkel Hyldebrant - Editor in Chief.
